Alastair,

I just bought Thomas Friedman's latest book, "The World is Flat," and
started reading last night.

He mentions, with reference to some specific people in the field and
quoting a letter from the President of Johns Hopkins University, the
outsourcing of digitized radiologic images from the US to Australia and
India, where they are read by radiologists, known to US as "nighthawks,"
since they are doing the work during night hours in the US, and send the
reports back in time for the next day.

I don't know whether this is a help or totally off topic, but it seems
to be what you are talking about.

Peace,

Ken
