My Namiki is very scratchy, as was the specimen tested by Consumer's
Union. Pelikan gives the most elegant looking script.

Alistair,
Never buy a Mont Blanc - a triumph of marketing over quality. Buy an
Omas or Pelikan fountain pen. Very flexible nibs, writes very well. 
Alternatively, get a Namiki - Japanese, with lovely laquered designs,
again 
stunning to write with. BTW, I only use fountain pens...
