The Summar is the oldest of the three, It is very flare prone and soft wide open. That said it has a unique look and really is something special. Uncoated. There is a very rare rigid version of this lens ($$$). The Summitar was the prelude to the Summicron. Not a bad lens. Sharper than the Summar and Elmar and slightly behind the Summicron. This lens was uncoated before 1945. The Summicron is a great lens and the sharpest of the collapsible models. It is based on the Summitar and really set a new standard for normal lens performance when it was introduced. It is not as sharp as the DR/rigid or current versions, but it has a beautiful fingerprint. This was HCB's standard lens for almost 40 years. All of these lenses have soft coatings and front elements. It is next to impossible to find a perfectly clean Summar. Most Summicron's have wipe marks. Shine a flashlight through the rear of the lens and check for swirls. feli On Apr 25, 2005, at 2:35 PM, Ruben wrote: > with leica SM/LTM > What is the difference between the Summar and Summitar both 5 cm 1: > 2,0 and how do they -if at akk - compare with the Summicron 5cm 2,0 > Thanks > Ruben > _______________________________________________ > Leica Users Group. > See http://leica-users.org/mailman/listinfo/lug for more information > > ________________________________________________________ feli2@earthlink.net 2 + 2 = 4 www.elanphotos.com
