I was just complimenting the quality of a camera as being what I think is the best ever made. I didn't mean to denigrate all earlier cameras or say that it took better pictures than any other. Am I on the RUG? ;-) Jeffery Smith New Orleans, LA http://www.400tx.com -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+jls=runbox.com@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+jls=runbox.com@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of B. But it hardly turns all Leicas before it to chopped chicken liver. Would HCB have done better work with an MP? Would Mary Ellen Mark do better work with an MP? Would Ted Grant do better work with an MP? Would Jeffery Smith? Of course not. There is always something "far more solid," and far more expensive out there. But that doesn't make it better in real world terms. If the M6 was built like a Bessa, then buying an MP would make a great deal of sense. But given that an M6 will outlive any of the current owner's of M6s, the MP is reduced, or elevated, to neck jewelry status - an expensive toy for rich aficionados who believe that only if they possess the cr?me de la cr?me can they hold their heads up. It is, in other words, a waste of money. If someone's got the money, and wants to waste it, more power to them. But deifying the MP the way some do strikes me as quite silly. -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Jeffery Smith Sent: Wednesday, April 06, 2005 4:38 PM To: Leica Users Group Subject: RE: [Leica] Leica M3 purchase After having handled the MP, it is hard to handle anything else. It feels like it was carved from a billet of steel. People compare it to the build quality of the M3, but it seems far more "solid" and smoother to me. I cannot imagine an RF being made any better than the new MP.
