In Osterloh's new book, "50 Years Leica M, there was an "unfinished M"
prototype with a Leitz-Copal-Shutter based on a R4 body center section
& a rangefinder mated to it in 1980. A few working prototypes were made but
design never cleared for production. It even had a rear opening film door!

Are any of these prototypes displayed in Solms?

Maybe this could be the basis of a Digital M. Add 2005 technology to this
old prototype it's possible to have the "futuristic" 1980 M shape
reincarnated in 2006.
