Tina,
I also have a Linksys wireless hooked up to Comcast cable.  Using the G
level and have no problems with speed.  Did have an annoyance with my
cordless phone system which was a 2.4, replaced it with the faster 5.8 and
that seemed to clear it up.
About the speed someone else mentioned, the 'standards' were A, B, G.  B and
G talk to one another and G is many times faster.  But wait, there's more, a
new and improved 'faster' G is available.  Don't know much about it though,
so don't know if would be of any value to you.
