With my most profound apologies to the LUG list - as I  have surely 
misunderstood my conversation with Roger Horn - forwarded is an email I
have 
just received from Stefan Daniel, product manager of Leica Camera A.G.
at 
Solms, responding to my query and confirming that serial production of
the 
0.72 Leica MP and 0.72 M7 continues, both in black and silver, and that 
there is an entry M7 with 50/2 lens set at an attractive price.

It appears that with the a la carte program in place, Leica is
discontinuing 
only serial production of the 0.58 and 0.85 versions of the cameras.

I am very sorry indeed to have caused such concern if not dismay and 
particularly the waste of time of so many LUG friends. Burdened by
12"-15" 
of fresh snow, ambient outdoor temperatures yesterday of -22 C. and a 
malfunctioning heating system at my old residence,  currently under
contract 
of sale but unoccupied, with interior temperature at  +2 C. and frozen 
waterlines, I nevertheless have begun my mea culpas. They will continue
into 
this evening when I hope I may be forgiven by all who because of me and
my 
mistake have wasted their time conjecturing on the unwise "decision" of 
Leica management and musing on the demise of Leica Camera.

I promise never to misunderstand anyone ever again.

That includes my immediate past wife.  ;-)

There is NO plan to discontinue the LEICA M7 and MP serial production.
All 
other information is wrong! With the ? la carte program, we will reduce
the 
serial production to 0.72 versions, available both in black and silver.
The 
M7 is even available in the "Entry set", together with a 50/f2 at a very

attractive price.
