It is an ideal travel lens and I typically carry it and my 35 Summicron ASPH when I take a trip. It seems to match the 35 ASPH in contrast and sharpness, at least at the level I've checked. Maybe others who've shot transparencies or run some lab tests can comment further. Collapsed, the 50/2.8 on an M Body will easily hang on my shoulder under a jacket so I look more like a tourist than a photographer when walking about - an advantage, I think. >I'm considering the purchase of an Elmar 50mm f2.8.
