I've tried with my SLR and a longer lens to capture the action of my son's playing (http://www.igs.net/~blades/orleans05.jpg). Since the lighting in rinks is usually poor, I used Delta 3200 for this shot. I have found that one of the keys is to get a handle on the play, and prefocus on a zone. As the play moves into range, fire away... Using the 3200 allowed me to use a 1/350 shutter (on a Nikon F80...but I do own a Leica!) with my 80-200 f2.8 zoom. This camera has autofocus, but it wasn't fast enough for the game. I carry my M6 as well with my 351.7 using 400 ASA, but mainly for those pictures happening off ice. Nice work though...and I have to disagree with Douglas about the cones. Having coached younger kids in hockey, the cones are a ubiquitous part of the process! Nanos (2) is a great shot, probably the best of the eight you posted. jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Didier Ludwig" <rangefinder@screengang.com> To: "Leica Users Group" <lug@leica-users.org> Sent: Friday, December 17, 2004 5:45 PM Subject: [Leica] Ice hockey shots, wide open > I spend the most of my marginal spare time to drive my kids to their > respective hobbies (figure skating for the girl; ice hockey for the boys), > so what else than shooting some pictures should I do while they are > practising or playing a match? > > Last weekend I tried out my newly acquired LTM Canon 1.2/50mm on a M6 - > it's the fastest lens I ever had so I shot the whole roll wide open.
