William, if your camera is still covered by your  Passport Warranty, Leica 
--I feel relatively sure -- will not honor it  if somebody else works on it 
first. 
    What you might do is (1) phone Leica in New Jersey and  ask for guidance 
or (2) if you have a good Leica repair person nearby, show it  to him/her 
but 
make sure you mention first that it's still under Passport  Warranty.
