Hi Tom:

I think that you might be right.  I have a Nikon Coolscan II which I 
bought new for $1000+ in the late 90s, but which I don't use anymore.

It produced a LOT of grain aliasing with both color and B&W negative films.

It might be worth $25 now! ;-(
