It's basically the same optical formula and any differences are minimal.
1. Tougher lens coating and 2. will focus down to 0.7m.

OTOH, the E43 comes with a really cool vented lenshood, rather than
the wimpy, built-in, pull-out shade of the E46.

I bought the E43 version because it was available and couldn't justify
the many extra $s for the E46.
