But alas, with the dying of film, it is no longer true. While Leica equipment may hold its value better than most film equipment, it is no longer holding it the way it did even a year ago. M6 TTLs purchased for $1995 were selling for about $1450 in near mint condition - now they're down to about $1150 - if you're lucky- and used M7s, which are now selling for, what, around $2800, are only worth approximately 50% of their new priced once they've been driven off the lot. So if you're going to invest $2500 in a 50 1.4 lens, you damn well better love that lens. ;-) -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+bdcolen=earthlink.net@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Vick Ko Sent: Monday, November 08, 2004 6:04 PM To: 'Leica Users Group' Subject: RE: [Leica] Summilux vs Summicron The beauty with Leica equipment is that at reasonable prices, you can buy the lens, take photos with it, discover its personality, and if you don't like it, sell it for what you paid for it. The really evil part is to buy both, with the thinking that you'll sell one of them ;-) regards Vick -----Original Message----- From: lug-bounces+vick.ko=sympatico.ca@leica-users.org [mailto:lug-bounces+vick.ko=sympatico.ca@leica-users.org] On Behalf Of Luis Ripoll Sent: Monday, November 08, 2004 5:55 PM To: Leica Users Group Subject: [Leica] Summilux vs Summicron Hello everyone, As I've said sometimes I'm not interested on the Summilux because it has one stop more than Summicron, the only point I'm interested is of this "personality". I've read that at F2 Summicron is better, that at 5,6 are similar. But nobody has already talk me about the mentioned "personality" , or fingerprint. In other words, colours and or black and white gradation, subtlety, differences in capability to isolate the main subject., these are the important points for me, and I'm not discussing for the perfection, I'm discussing about the impression that this lens could give. I ask this question because I have a reasonable offer for a Summilux 50 (E46), and I don't know if it paid's invest .., or burn the money on it. Thanks for the opinions Saludos desde Barcelona Luis _______________________________________________ Leica Users Group.
