Ah, but such magnificent insanity! I got my Nocti 
from a UK LUGger (thanks Simon), who immediately 
started to suffer from Nocti withdrawal symptoms. 
It didn't cross my mind for a moment that I could 
have bought a pristine Nikon body and several 
lenses for the same price.

Ted Grant's Nocti advocacy was the main reason I 
bought it - much to the alarm of my bank manager. 
As he (Ted, not my bank manager) points out, it's 
a great general purpose lens as well as a 
specialised one. I used it 'loaded for bear' 
(Fuji 800) at a musical evening in Austria 
recently. It was so dark that we could barely see 
each other, but the shots turned out fine (1/60th 
wide-open as I recall).

Couldn't agree more. My only problem is that I'll 
probably be cremated, which may be a waste of a 
good Nocti....... :-)
