Subject: [Leica] M3 baseplate question

Greetings all,

I have a question about M3 baseplates.  Did all M3's have the familiar 
"auf/zu"
markings on the baseplate?  If not, when, approximately, did they stop being
made with said markings?  If you see a M3 without those markings on the base-
plate is is it reasonable to assume that it is not the original base?
