This, coming from a Leica user would be hard criticism indeed.
And telling.

I could get on the Pentax list and lambaste them for days to weeks on any
number of points I could continually dream up when sooner or later the fact
that I've not used a Pentax in decades and have little interest in them
anyway as the systems I actually use lie elsewhere would come out and serve
to weaken my arguments to non-substantialities.
But to come on and say

MY SPOTMATIC HAS LET ME DOWN AFTER 5 YEARS OF TRUSTY SERVICE!!!!
I BORROWED MY KIDS' MINOLTA WHICH I NOW LIKE TEN TIMES BETTER!
Might raise some eyebrows

There have been people on the Lug who HAVE gone out and gotten an R8 and
after months or years of bad luck or whatever gone back to M. Or earlier
versions of (Minolta?) more traditionally designed R's.

The abuse above however rings to me as hollow.

Few cameras were in more need of hand on burning of rolls of film for an
informed opinion on than the modern ergonomically innovative R8/9's.

ON the shelf they look like clunkers.

In the hands they are a proven delight.
