The only problem with removing the battery pack with cameras like this -
or the F100, or the E-1, is that they are best balanced, and configured
for the hands, with the packs attached.

They have better technologies that they can deploy, better AF and 
metering, as well as the i-TTL.  They have been selling sb800 
flashlights and I do not think it is good that their top of the line 
film camera cannot take advantage of the technology.
