Ted,

I thought the same thing (though fewer years) when I read the R7 manual on 
how to load the film.  Seems I had been doing it backwards for 20 years. 
You're supposed to put the film tongue in the take up spool first and pull 
the cartridge back over and set it into place second.

But I have to admit I never mis-loaded the camera again!
