Maybe that's it. I believe many of these prints are contact prints, having
been shot with a 4x5 and sometimes even a 6x9/6x7 or 6x6. Azo may be a good 
guess. I've seen some original Hurrell (sp?) prints. He used Azo and they 
have
the same look.
