Anybody in the Boston area want some walnut timber? I am about to cut
down three or four twenty inch caliber native American black walnuts.
Contact me off-list.

I am also a woodworker. A downed oak commands a pretty good group of
people
to scarf up the (free) wood. Oak needs to dry for a while, but at $3 a
board foot, a big tree is a considerable savings to the amateur or very
advanced professional of custom furniture. If it is spalted ( partially
rotted), it can sell for $15 a board foot. Spalted wood is truly
beautiful.
Chunks of wood for turners commands a bit less money, but they tend not
to
be too fussy. They pretty much would take as much as their garages
would
hold.

I realize that to find a proper outlet to take away the wood is not
easy,
but if you ask a local arborist if there might be a woodworker that
would
appreciate the wood, you might be very surprised at the response.
