Oh, right, Mark - We're going to see a new film format introduced as
manufacturers are starting to get out of the film camera business.
Right. ;-)

It could be that the digital format which gives a 1.5 crop factor over
normal 35mm film format could solidify itself. That's 23.7 by 15.6 mm
with a 28.37 diagonal. Could be they come out with film cameras of this
format to fit the lenses which are cutely being made for the digital
cameras. That way I get to use my 12-24 to shoot film.

I think tab grain films and Xtol has made half frame sized black and
white film formats or close to it viable and ideal for many an
application. Heck 400 speed color neg films now are better than the 100
was when I started out in photography in 1975.

A smaller format is so much easier to shoot with. You have no problem
getting everything in focus. Exactly the reason some don?t like it as
they want to do this selective focus wide angle thing. But let them come
out with a half frame Noctilux. With aspheric elements and so on. Then
they can eat cake
    and eat it too.

Let me eat cake!
