His work from the Korean war was really strong, but IMO he has sort of got caught up in his own self-image since then. The Picasso book was pretty bloated, and the recent HCB book was a fiasco, from some accounts. I saw a copy in Santa Fe -- it struck me as an attempt to create some spurious linkage between DDD and HCB that probably never existed.
