I don't know if the Chicago Manual of Style can be said to be a companion
to the little book :)

There's a similar book that might be more useful (unless you're writing
your PhD, then the Chicago Manual of Style can be useful). It's from the
same publishers. I usually stick it in the hands of students writing term
papers.
