Is this true for USB 2?

Also is there anyway of adding an external RAID array using either USB 2
or firewire on a Windows XP machine?

With my film scans I can go back to the originals negatives or slides,
but I'm getting a bit twitchy about having lots of digital originals
where I stand to loose everything if there's a disc problem.
