At the end of the 15th century on the orders of the Knightley family, who
owned Fawsley Hall, the village of Fawsley was abandoned. The villagers
were moved out in favour of the more profitable sheep grazing. Capability
Brown, who was an 18th century master English landscape gardener (not a
state of military alert), flooded the area in the shot as part of his
landscaping of the estate.
