Slobodan Dimitrov has a very clever solution to the whole softie / meter mess.
A simple piece of leather (of the proper thickness) with a slot cut in it so it
fits under the softie and prevents it from being depressed while in the
bag or otherwise. The piece of leather hangs from a piece of string, the other
end of which is attached to the strap loop, and can be flicked out from under
the softie in a fraction of a second with your index finger. Simple and effective.
