Chris Williams says that 800 Superia and Press are the same formula. That
Press is only available in 36 exposures and Superia in 24 is the main
difference. I think I did a cost per frame, and they came out about the same. I
have not used NPZ, so I can't comment. It is a bit more expensive I think.
Anyhow, I like the 24 exposure rolls, as I can feel better about not shooting
the whole roll before processing.
I take mine to WalMart for scanning and they put it on cd for right at $6 a
roll, and that includes tax and an index print. Lately there has been a
little issue with scratches, but I'll scold them, and it'll get fixed.
I have only used the Portra BW, and I like it, but now I shoot all in 800,
and desaturate it if I want BW.

What differences do you see with Fujicolor Superia X-TRA 800, Fujicolor
Portrait NPZ 800 Professional, and Fujicolor Press 800?

One of my main issues with Portra is any speed over 160NC and the grain
begins to really show, thus a recent switch back to chrome emulsions. However, I
still prefer the wider latitude of the print film, as well as the more
pastel color rendition.

I have found the 100 to 160 speed films to be too slow for use in many
candid portrait scenarios without flash. Shooting with the Noct wideopen @ 1/4
second is just too long for me to handhold with decent results. If I could get
away from using the flash, have good color rendition and as little grain as
possible, I' be a happy camper.

/Mitch
