This is probably at least 2 years out (or forever out, according to some un-named cynic :-) ). Spec: who knows. 2 - Digilux-2. PROs: fast wide zoom. Autofocus. Continuous shooting. Cons: Faux Leica (in terms of weight and heft). Not a real RF. Autofocus. Slow RAW write time. 5 MP on a small sensor. Limited to ISO 400. Sucks battery juice faster. 3 - DSLR and other digicams Not really a competition. If you like SLR, you like DSLR. I like there are people who use both (I do), but if you are waiting for a real RF digital that takes your Leica lens, this is it, for the next two years at least. Epson/Cosina will only make 10,000 R-D1s per year. I doubt if it does not sell out fast regardless of its price, whether it is $2700 or $1700. People will buy this puppy. It may not be for all Leica owners, but enough will buy it. I think one of the most important effect of this announcement is that sales for Leica Digilux2, M7 and MP will drop significantly in the next few months until it ships. May be I can pick up a back up M7 cheap :-) People who don't want a digital, they don't need to get any digital camera, not like anyone is grabbing their cameras away :-) At 03:26 PM 3/12/2004 -0500, Dan C wrote: >We also know nothing about speed of operation, RAW buffer sizes etc. >What will the rangefinder baseline be?
