Sorry to jump in so late!
Things may have changed, but I understood that Kodak made and coated ALL
their film in Rochester, and the European or gray market version was film
stock that was shipped overseas, slit, cut rolled and packaged their- The
difference in price was not due to quality, but a higher cost for the other
work here.
It sounded somewhat reasonable, but it may be an apochryphal story.
