So, I wake up, leisurely today, make some toast, put my feet up, feed
the cat, putter around in the back yard.... Eventually I decide to turn
on the computer and check my email before wandering back outside to
catch up on some reading. There in my inbox is a message:

 From: [mumble mumble] magazine
 Subject: This Morning

 Dear Kyle,
Thank you for so much for agreeing to photograph Governor Rendell
today. I'm sure you already have it, but I just wanted to send you
another copy of his schedule for today. See you at 9:00!

Holy fark! Leap off of the chair, grab the leicas, shove them in a bag
run out of the house in my pajamas, into a taxi with the instructions
"Think NASCAR, there's a big tip in it for you!"

Race to the venue, out of the taxi, up the steps, and ... Then begins
the long wait for the governor who's late ... So I hang around in the
back with the real photographers and pretend like I belong. We have
conversations like
this:

Real photographer 1: "So, that XYZ storie's really played out hasn't
it?" Real Photographer 2: "Yeah, I sat outside that hospital for six
hours waiting to get that shot."
Me: "Yeah. You think they have donuts here?"
Real Photographer 1: "Last night I was hanging off the runner of that
helecopter covering the evacuation story." Real Photographer 2: "Yeah, I
saw you, I was behind the police car when the bullets started flying. I
took one in the arm here."
Me: "Yeah, I was, um, getting shot at too. You'd think they'd at least
have coffee." Real photographer 1: "Yeah. I saw you on the roof of the
ambulance getting that shot." Real photographer 2: "not as bad as
bosnia!" Real photographer 1: "yeah, definitely, that was crazy."
Me: "Check out the red dot on my camera here!"

Eventually the governor shows up, I snap my shots, with my Leica set to
3200 asa at 1/250 at 2.8 for the most part.

Back to the office, photos to [mumble mumble] can't wait for them to
figure out that I'm a fraud.

NOW I'm going to sit out in the back yard and catch up on some reading!
