I'll admit I don't, Frank. The whole idea of our 'free press' is its
independence. There are plenty of organizations that recognize
excellence in journalism - I don't believe that Congress, which is
specifically barred by the Constitution with interfering with freedom of
the press, should be giving awards to journalists. The 'country' should
recognize the risks taken by the media by actually reading newspapers
and paying attention to news broadcasts, which pitifully few people
actually do. ;-)

A congressional medal would be more appropriate than a military one 
in that case, no ?
