B.D.

Actually, with the current exchange rate it would be more like US$4K. As you
so pithily suggest, this would not be an offer that attracts everyone. But
if Leica Camera AG need Euro $15M to finance the project, it would only take
5K investor-owners to sell out the issue. If I had reasonable assurance that
they could pull this off, I might be willing to buy a bond...

In other words, ask Leica users to throw $3k down the toilet? Invest in
the company which, if it fails in this project, will go belly up - or
pay $3k sight unseen for a camera that may be a disaster?

I love my Ms. I love my lenses. I have NO emotional investment in a
company called Leica. And I suspect that most people who use these
cameras feel precisely the same way.

Right, Larry!

When I read the announcement several days ago, I must admit that the
coincidence had me wondering to myself. But if selling Euro 15M bonds to
finance the project is a problem, why not ask loyal owners to help solve
it?

Why not offer a Euro 3K bond to each and every Leica M owner,
convertible at some point to either Leica Camera AG shares or a
"investors' edition" digital M body? That way, those who prefer to own
equity can satisfy that need, and those who want a special digital M can
have theirs, too.

HPC, are you listening?

(snip)

By the way, did anyone suspect that the announcement of the PLANS for
digital
M development was a red herring to mask Leica's dismal financial news
and
personnel layoffs. REMEMBER THAT THERE IS NO CAMERA! There are just
plans to develop a digital M contingent on Leica's ability to sell 15
million Euros worth
of bonds. Since many Leica stockholders are avid photographers, the
proposal

for the digital M may just have been sugar to make the bitter medicine
go down.

I hope I'm wrong.
