Simon,
You want to set up conditions favorable to you and unfavorable to the
digital guy. I would use a Noctilux with Neopan 1600 at 1600. Your
advantages are the ability to hold highlights and shadows with no
significant flare under almost any conditions. To make an IS lens less
of an advantage I would have someone moving or dancing.

Your ideal situation would be a night club with a lot of spotlights in
the frame. Use either an active musician or couples dancing for the
motion as you will have 2 to 4 shutter speeds advantage over most lenses
your friend can bring to the table. For focusing accuracy you would
want motion in a plane in front of you so that the focus point doesn't
move at F1. Also, you would want a middle range shot to minimize
focusing errors.

Your worst situation would be something stationary in flat light with no
flare possibilities; those are situations where the high speed digital
will shine. You want to open the possibility of blowing out highlights
which is the weakness of the digital system.

Last point, you need to instruct your lab if you haven't started to
process your own film to use a compensating system. My recommendation
would be Xtol at 1:3 with agitation only every two or three minutes.
With Neopan you can let the stock Xtol drop as low as 60ml per roll in
your dilution. Temperatures in the 21-22C would be ideal.

I hope this helps.

Subject: [Leica] Help requested! i,ve been challenged for a duel by a
Canon owner

A pro friend of mine who does sports and is good enough to test for both
Nikon and Canon has challenged me for a low light duel.
Allthough we have not finalised our test conditions yet what do you
recommend?
What can I expect from his state of the art Canon,s in ISO,s and lenses?
Should i use a Noctilux and slow film or a summicron (90 for the M or 50
for
my R) on faster film.
Tripod or hand held?I can really use your help this guy is way beyond me
in
everything photographic.
Thanks
simon
