Put the hood on the lens and open it up, put the shutter on B, open it and flip open the back. Look through the lens from the front, and hold it up to the light. Does the hood block the lens opening before you can see the corners of the frame? If so, it vignettes. If you can see the corners through all parts of the lens with the hood in place, it doesn't vignette. Much more conclusive than with film as it doesn't confuse light falloff due to the lenses' optical or physical design, and it doesn't cost anything other than a couple of minutes. - -- * Henning J.
