Well I have to agree with the too-little too-late prediction on the R8 digital back. Much as I'd like it to be there. They'll be two full generations behind.

What's sad is that the modular F6 concept he's talking about makes sense since it allows you to update your sensor system or shift to/from film like a medium format camera.

It would be a shame to see Leica be merely a seller of lenses - but at least they'd be selling what they do best and not cameras where they are generations behind. Would they be still in operation if it weren't for the collector's market? I'm not sure but I fear not.

I'll shoot film. And I see myself buying Canon digital backs for my R lenses when the technology will really let me put that glass to good use. Right now digital still gives away more than even the worst Leica R lens produces. But that will change when we have 40 Mpixel chips behind the lens. Then that quality will shine.

But...will we get there? Is it in the best interest of Canon or Nikon to make a camera like that? I'm not sure.

I do know that the new IEEE wireless format, capable of doing wireless HDTV to your laptop or desktop, will make a fabulous interconnect for these cameras.

But hey - what do I know!
