We enjoyed the experience but prefer to live in the USA and travel a lot. We still rent a house in a foreign country every Christmas and spend a month there to get away from the commercialism here. This year it's Ecuador but we've also rented houses in Switzerland (3 times!), Spain (twice), Portugal (twice), Czech Republic, Wales, Kenya, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Greece, Austria, Leichtenstein, Italy (twice). It's a great education for the kids and I love shopping for and cooking local foods. We use free frequent flier points, rent a cheap house, and it ends up being cheaper than staying home. The trip is the Christmas present for everybody. It's always good to get back home, but about this time every year I start to get itchy feet. I can only listen to "I Saw Mama Kissing Santa Claus" so many time before I have to grab my suitcases and leave!
