Subject: [Leica] shadow noise in scans

All,

I am having some problems with noise in the shadows in my scans.  Is 
noise solely related to scanner dpi?  It's not a film problem, seems to 
be consistent with  different emulsions.  I am using a Minolta Diamage 
Scan Dual 3, scanning in 16 bit.  I have used both the Minolta software 
and VueScan.
