There is a $29 paperback edition of Eugene Smith's Dream Street out now - - the Pittsburgh project - and the quality is quite high... There is also a HUGE new book of Jacques Lowe's JFK photography - the negatives of which were theoretically lost in a bank vault on 9/11. I don't know whether his means they weren't lost, or the prints had been made prior to 9.11. In any case, a terrific book - which includes a number of contact sheets, with picks marked, or some rejections marked. Fascinating to see the process...and wonderful photos of a photogenic Presidency. Oh, and, among other things, an essay by Tom Wolfe.... B. Mind you I am now confused. I like Ralph's work -- not all of it, Who likes all of anyone's work? -- and I like Ted's work -- not all of it, Who likes all of anyone's work? How can I reconcile the two when Ted does like Ralph's work -- not even any of it? Damn it all, I will have to call up Ralph and see how he feels about Ted's work. If he doesn't like Ted's work then I can put the whole thing down to professional jealousy. But what to do if he likes Ted's work? Other than, of course, break it to him gently that Ted is not a fan...
