Could be. The geographer E. Huntington believed that civilizations rose and 
fell in accordance with climatic conditions. Human behavior was thought to be 
shaped by ecological forces that set limits on what peoples could achieve. 
Although they were free to make choices, their geographical habitat put a limit on 
their abililty to effect their choices. In Huntington's view, the most 
productive people were found in the colder temperate climates, say like that of New 
Haven, Connecticut.

Huntington was a professor at Yale University. He used a Leica to record his 
geographic travels.
