I've never owned a 50 cron - so I have nothing to compare it to - except to say that it's as sharp at 1.4 as my 35 lux asph, and it's sharper at 1.4 than any Nikon 50 I ever owned. In other words - It's a very fine 50mm lens and happens to have that extra stop or two available as well - that's how I look at it and how I use it.
