My choice would be the first photo IF it weren't for that brown leaf hanging
down just above the hawk's wing. It pulls my eye away again and again. A bit of
photoshop work to make that vanish would be worthwhile if you're not opposed to
that sort of thing.

What I like about the 2nd image is the eye-contact. "Helloooooooo LUNCH" it
seems to say. And I love the light background. There is also more feather
texture.

You know I have both of these images open on my screen right now. My eye goes
back to the 2nd image. I see the textured breast feathers, then that eye, then
the background.

So while my mind votes for the 1st image, my eye is voting - quite strongly -
for the second.
