Clean bathroom, hot coffee, quick service. McDonald's became dominate because they filled a need for a lot of people. I remember all too well my first grilled cheese sandwich with coleslaw on it outside Oklahoma City in a little diner. It was not exactly what I was expecting. McDonalds offered a reliable offering when the country had not become so homogenized. As an aside, as a Jr old fart, I now look out for the old diners with their quirky food and sometimes bizarre help. But then I'm not driving ten hours to spend six with a girlfriend anymore.
