I use a wide angle hood with a 49mm thread size along with 44mm (Series VI)
to 55mm and 55-49mm adapters.  This combination, about the same size as a
Series VI hood, blocks from about 15%-10% of the 50mm frameline area in a
Hexar RF (as you go from 1m to infinity).  On a Canon VT, it also blocks
about 1/6 of the viewfinder at the 50mm setting.  And it allows the use of
new, coated filters.
