He's had my M-kit (2 bodies, 4 lenses) for about two weeks. Just a maintenence check up to get everything aligned and tightened, etc.. Well he begins to explain why he may want to replace the bayonet flange on my Noctilux and I just had this hillarious vision of what a fool I am to expect these precision, optical, mechanical marvels to do what I expect them to do. Don has discovered that bayonet flange replacement can improve a slight (we're talking 1,000s of mm here) tilt, which can occur over time, and which when focusing at 3.5 ft at f:1 will have an adverse effect on focus expectations. So after decades of running around with this M6 classic and Noctilux swinging from my neck, tossing it in bags, basically just acting like a photographer. Now, I see myself becoming like a movie version of an assasin. I'll have to put the precision adjusted, body/lens combo, in a hard halliburton surrounded by 6 - 8 inches of foam - taking it out only to zero in on that one all important "shot" - then return it to it's foam home till the next contract comes up. Too weird. Had me laughing and fantasy designing a Leica comic book for LUGgers. Definitely time for a DigiRebel with it's $100 zoom which, if anything like my loving partner's son's FilmRebel, will probably rattle like a child's toy and make gorgeous 6mpixel files.
