David - I use and enjoy Leica Ms; three M6s, two Abrahamson winders,
four Leica lenses and one Cosina lens. They are part of my photo tool
kit.

But I own them not because they are Leicas, but because they are the
best rangefinder cameras I could find, and they fit my shooting style.
My interest in photography is an interest in - photography. I want to
create outstanding images, and hope that once and a while I succeed. I
want to share my images with people with an interest in - photography. I
want to look at outstanding images, and care not with what they are
shot, because I know enough about photography to understand what counts
is the image, no the camera used to capture it. I also know enough about
photography to know that I can improve my own images by studying the
images of others, no matter what they were shot with.

I chose to belong to this list because I share with people on this list
the use of Leica cameras, and because I have a number of friends here. I
am here because this is an interesting community.

Frankly, if this becomes a Leica-only list - and it has not been such in
the - what? four? - years I have been a member - I will have little
interest in remaining. Because, frankly, if it becomes a Leicaverted
list many of the best photographers, and many of the most interesting
people, will be gone.

So before you push to hard for brand cleansing here, consider that,
given her post today, you will be pushing the likes of Tina Manley out
the door.

And by the way, while I am certainly aware of Brian's rules for the
list, I note that most of this hankering to discuss and show nothing but
Leica images comes from those who are Leica-come-latelies to the list -
and Brian hasn't said a thing.

B.D.

It doesn't matter that we cannot tell the difference between Leica,
Nikon,
Canon or whatever photos - digi or film. Because of the limitations of
the
net, such distinctions are impossible.

That is not the point. There are countless forums on the net for the
discussion of all brands and all types of photography. But this is the
LEICA Users Group. Not the Canon User's Group. Nor the Fuji-digi Users

Group; the Pentax Users Group or the Nikon Users Group.

Most folks are here because they use and enjoy Leicas.

If I wanted to see photos taken with a Canon, I'd join the Canon groups!

But, you need not take my word. Simply read the message you got when
you
joined the list. It's Brian's list, and he indicates he created it for
the
discussion of rangefinder photography, using cameras created by Leica
and
others, as well as other types of cameras made by Leica. Hence the
name.

I, and I think most members, would willingly extend that to include all
manner of cameras with some Leica connection. SonC's beautiful shots
with
his digi with Leica lens are OK. Tina's superb shots with her Canon 10d
with Leica lens attached are also fine. Other makers cameras rebadged as

Leicas are appropriate here, as well.

Nobody's knocking digital. Nobody's knocking point & shoots. All manner
of
cameras and styles, as well as the photos produced by them, should be
welcome here, provided they have a Leica connection.

But an image shot with a Nikon SLR, using a Nikon lens is not
appropriate
here, simply because the owner also owns a Leica of some type. He
should
post his Leica images here and his Nikon images to a Nikon list.

You are right. Times are a'changin'. But so is Leica. We have all
manner
of products from them, including the coming digi-back for the R's.

If this list should wither and die, because we didn't discuss other
brands, then so be it. There are, and will be, many there lists for
those discussions. I, for one, think this list will fare better, if it
sticks to its roots.

Respectfully,

David Young.
