Assuming in charge of product line....; NO. if anything I would like the CEO job. As the first order of business, I would buy couple of companies to help me strengthen the digital product line up (this is of course after the old ceo was fired for the lack of vision and bad sales, so digital is going strong and kodak needs to catch up). Consolidation of the old business and putting it in the harvest mode while expanding full speed with the digital world PS When there is shift in business model, you got to change/train employees but unfortunate most of the time you cut the old and hire new ones - --------------------------------------------------- regards, mehrdad - -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us] On Behalf Of Frank Filippone Sent: Wednesday, July 23, 2003 3:32 PM To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: RE: [Leica] Kodak to cut up to 6,000 jobs lack of vision? I think I might agree with the first 2 accusations, but they did not get caught blindsided... it is that Kodak is a coating company. They coat "things". Film, Hard Disks, etc. The population is now using things that are not coated. so their film lines are getting hit hard. What can you do with employees that are trained to do a job, and the population moves from Buggy Whips to Disk Brakes? Yes, they need to downsize. They needed to downsize. They are downsizing. Assuming you were in charge of the new products area of Kodak, what would you suggest for new products, without downsizing? Remember your employees are trained in certain tasks .... changing those tasks drastically is not an over night accomplishment.
