When my dad first let me borrow his IIIa (a thing that he had let me handle - with a mixture of awe and delight - though to him it was just a tool), it only left its ER case for film loading; too precious (in my alleged mind) to be exposed to the bumps and knocks of everyday living. I remember at the time thinking that changing film, with a fleeting opportunity for a master image, made me feel like a mountain man with a muzzle-loading rifle under attack by the entire Blackfoot nation.
