It seems to me (the walrus said) that it's a stylistical thing.
Most of us have a 50 and a 35. A Noctilux is $27,000 new and our
"renters rebate" check may have to go other places.
Few of us have the Nocti and waaay fewer have the 75 Sumi.

And although these lenses are roughly the same size as SLR lenes they
are waaay heavier.

... making them a tough couplet to tug around.

I've got no 75 Sumi and didn't think I'd want one till this week.
Thought that would be the one Leica lens i was not interested in. But
the lure of the 75 sumi is real.
I bet I get 75 people (notice i didn't say "guys") e-mailing me off list
about the great deal they'll give me their 75 for.
Pay the shipping… Free lenscap and UV filter.

The good thing about actually somehow buying stuff like a Noctilux and
75 Summilux is when it way later finially comes time to getting some
more serious needed glass it is going to be chump change in comparison.
The high speed Leica M giants makes the rest seem cheap.
"What! only $1495 for a Asph 35 Summicron I thought it cost way more
that! Wait i think i have that much in my back pocket! Wait! I'll check
my sport jackets for loose change!
