After you select the "crop tool" (and before you use it
in your image window) look at the "tool info strip" that
Photoshop displays at the top of your monitor.

You should see a text box for "height" and one for
"width". If you want a 4 high to 5 wide aspect, then
type 4 into height, and 5 into width. That will force
the crop box to always keep this aspect.

Some other notes:

- - Next time you try to crop, you may find that Pshop
has remembered the aspect setting, and is forcing
you to use 4:5 ratio. Clear the text boxes!

- - Be careful about setting values like "4 in" (inches)
or "400 px" (pixels) in the height/width boxes. If you do,
Pshop will also resample your image to match the settings.
Most likely, you not want this to happen.

- - After you have dragged out your crop region in the
image window, take a look at the "tool info". You will
see a checkbox called "perspective". If you check the
box, you can drag the crop corners into non-rectangular
shapes. When you "okay" the crop, Pshop will "warp"
your image into a rectangular shape. You can use this
feature to simulate the effect of a "perspective control"
lens (ie. the shift/rise/fall function of a view camera).

Mike
