Possibly because there is no better answer! Your DOF is teeny and so is the 
RF VF patch. May be you can put the 1.25 mag. on a M3 and get a 1.2x view 
on the VF, then perhaps it could be easier. Couple things to be careful for:

- - if you are say focusing on the eyes, but the eyes are not in the center 
of the pic, then even tipping the camera up to focus and then down to take 
picture could add the distance to make the picture outside of the DOF range
- - the closer the object, the less tolerance you get!

May be you can try a SLR and see if you can focus better, but then you lose 
the glass, perhaps the wide aperture, and of course the mirror slap.

Ain't no perfect solution :-(
